Leevisa had lived in South Korea all her life before she recently immigrated to Toronto, Canada. It was a sudden and somewhat unexpected decision. The vague expectations of living abroad and the disparity that comes with it, the feeling of alienation being a floating stranger, and the internal reconstruction of the various music she had previously experienced as a native Korean. Leevisa’s first full-length, 《Metro Blue》, encompasses the thoughts and experiences of a musician who suddenly left home. It depicts a certain everyday life that she looks back on as a stranger.
A description of how it feels to live in everyday life in the modern world often takes on a negative tone—a dull, monotonous meaninglessness among the extraordinary moments. But if you look back at that sensation and time in more detail, you'll find that it's not made up of a colorlessness devoid of any vibration, but rather a series of small spikes. From positive joys to negative melancholy or pointless daydreams and burdening worries to fleeting sparks of beauty. Those are moments that are too brief and volatile to remain in memory for too long—often flattened by the iron of "everyday life"—but they indeed exist.
The album captures the sunlight pouring in on the Subway Line 4 over Dongjak Bridge, an omelette for lunch while working at a small printshop, an attempt to write a UK garage tune, the news of deaths during a busy commute, and the everyday life of people who have lost their normality.
Clubs, museums, Instagram, SoundCloud are fragments where Leevisa hones her methodology, where 《Metro Blue》 breaks free— assembling an honest composition of attitude, shaping together her real-life experiences.

Leevisa는 평생 동안 한국에서 살았고, 아주 최근에 캐나다 토론토로 이민을 갔다. 생각지도 못했던, 조금은 갑작스러운 결정이었다. 해외에서 살아가는 것에 대한 막연한 기대와 그에 따른 괴리, 붕 떠 있는 이방인으로서 느끼는 이질적 감각, 이전에 한국인으로서 경험했던 다채로운 음악에 대한 내적 재구성. Leevisa의 첫 정규작 [Metro Blue] 속에는 갑작스레 떠나온 한 음악가가 느낄 법한 상념과 경험이 포개어져 있다. 그리고 그 상념과 경험이 그리는 것은, 이방인으로서 되돌이켜 본 어떤 일상이다.
일상을 살아간다는 감각은 어떤 것일까? 현대 사회에서 그것을 설명하는 방식은 대개 부정적인 톤, 즉 비일상과 비일상 사이의 지겹고 단조로운 무의미함을 뜻할 때가 많다. 그렇지만 그 감각과 시간을 좀 더 세밀하게 되돌이켜 보면, 그것이 어떤 진동도 없는 모노톤적 무채색만으로 이루어져 있다기보다는 일련의 작은 스파이크로 촘촘하게 채워져 있다는 사실을 발견하게 될 것이다. 긍정적인 기쁨부터 부정적인 침울함까지, 쓸데없는 공상과 마음을 짓누르는 고민을 지나 순간적으로 마주친 아름다움까지. 그것은 오랫동안 기억에 남아 있기에는 너무 짧고 휘발성 강한 – 그래서 '일상'이라는 다리미로 평탄화되어 넘어가곤 하는 순간들이지만, 그럼에도 분명하게 존재하는 순간들이다.
[Metro Blue]가 잡아내는 건 그런 작은 스파이크들이다. 동작대교를 지나는 4호선 지하철에 쏟아지는 햇빛, 작은 인쇄소에서 일하다 가진 점심시간에 먹는 오믈렛, 한국 사람으로서 한번 만들어 보는 UK 개러지, 바쁜 통학시간에 스쳐 지나간 죽음의 소식, 정상성을 상실한 사람들이 겪(어야 하)는 일상… 짙은 색의 신시사이저와 파열된 드럼, 의미를 가지거나 가지지 못한 목소리가 평소라면 스쳐 지나갔을 일상의 작은 상념들 곁에 계속해서 머무르며 그 파형을 증폭시킨다.
클럽, 미술관, 인스타그램, 사운드클라우드, 그 모든 작게 조각난 비일상의 단면 속에서 끊임없이 자신의 방법론을 갈고 닦았던 Leevisa의 경험은 [Metro Blue]에 이르러 자신의 일상을 솔직하고 자유롭게 표현하는 기록 도구가 된다. 거기에는 어려웠던 삶 속에서 겪은 상처와 도전이, 한국인으로서 비주류적 음악을 수용하는 태도에 대한 고민이, 음악을 창작하는 데 따르는 방황과 짜릿함이 녹아 있다. 아마도 그것이 이 앨범에 일렉트로닉은 물론 드림 팝, 클래식, 록, 발라드 등 다채로운 장르의 흔적이 묻어나는 이유일 것이며, 사진이나 숏폼 같은 짧고 순간적인 매체보단 영화나 책 같은 긴 호흡의 매체에 이 작품을 비유하고 싶어지는 까닭일 것이다.
일상이라는 쐐기돌Keystone이 별처럼 떠오르는 순간, 그 순간이 만드는 진동이 어떤 것인지 Leevisa는 알고 있다. 아주 작아서 느껴지지 않을지도 모르지만, 그럼에도 분명하게 존재하는 빛. [Metro Blue]가 조심스럽게 매만져 밝힌 그 빛은, 이제 다양한 색깔을 띠고 우리를 향한다.
